The conservation of clocks and automats was undertaken on the occasion of the reopening of the Kunstkammer. The moving artefacts were originally part of the famous collections of Archduke Ferdinand II of Tyrol and Emperor Rudolph II (Prague) dating back to the 2nd half of the 16th century. Ships automat, trumpet automat, bell tower automat and Kugellaufuhr, served as splendid artefacts of regal representation. Examination results and conservation of these significant automats will be presented and the challenges of describing functions for documentation will be explained.

Visit: open access conservation of Rueland Frueauf the Elder at the Obere Belvedere
Main entrance, Oberes Belvedere
Registration open until November 25th, 2013, iic.oesterreich@gmail.com
In spring 2013 elaborate examinations and conservation works started on 8 paintings by Rueland Fruehauf the Elder (1449/45 – 1507). Conservation is undertaken in a specifically designed gallery at the Obere Belvedere. Museum visitors have the opportunity to meet conservators and watch the work’s progress.
The paintings are part of an altar-ensemble, presumably created by the artist for the cathedral or parish of St. Peter, Salzburg. The visit will grant insights into derived research results and explain employed conservation techniques. Conservators will also share their experiences with conservation advocacy.
